TMR Magnetic Mouse Switch Technology

For competitive gaming, every click matters. Traditional mechanical mouse switches rely on physical electrical contacts to register a click. FineMax TMR Magnetic Switch technology takes a different approach.

By combining a precision mechanical structure, permanent magnet and TMR magnetic sensing, the switch separates the tactile feeling of a click from its electrical detection. The mechanical structure gives you the crisp click feel you expect. The TMR sensor detects the movement magnetically.

What Is a TMR Magnetic Mouse Switch?

TMR (Tunneling Magnetoresistance) is a magnetic sensing technology capable of detecting changes in magnetic field. Inside the switch, a permanent magnet moves together with the button mechanism. As the button is pressed, the magnetic field detected by the TMR sensor changes.

The sensor converts this change into an electrical signal, allowing the mouse to determine when the switch reaches its actuation point. Unlike a conventional mechanical switch, detection does not need to depend on physical electrical contacts closing and stabilizing.

The switch combines a familiar tactile mechanism with a magnetic sensing architecture. The POM stem transfers button movement, the alloy copper reed defines feel and return behavior, and the housing maintains precise alignment. The permanent magnet moves with the mechanism, allowing the TMR sensor on the mouse PCB to read its position without using the mechanical contact as the primary actuation signal.

Why TMR Makes a Difference

1  No Contact-Bounce Double-Clicking

Traditional mechanical switches rely on metal electrical contacts. Wear, oxidation, contamination and contact bounce can contribute to unintended double-clicking. TMR sensing reads switch movement magnetically, removing conventional contact bounce from the primary detection path.

Traditional Mechanical

Physical contact → Contact bounce → Debounce → Click

TMR Magnetic

Magnet movement → TMR detection → Actuation logic → Click

2  Zero Traditional Debounce Delay

Mechanical switches require debounce handling because their contacts can bounce when closing. TMR detection does not rely on those bouncing contacts, so the click can be registered from the magnetic signal without waiting through a traditional mechanical-contact debounce window.

This does not mean zero total mouse latency. End-to-end latency still depends on firmware, MCU processing, polling rate, and USB or wireless transmission. TMR removes one unnecessary delay at the beginning of the click path.

3  Adjustable Actuation

A traditional mechanical switch has a largely fixed electrical actuation point. TMR sensing measures changes in the magnetic signal as the button moves, allowing firmware to define where the click actuates.

EARLIER ACTUATION

Faster, more sensitive triggering for competitive FPS.

DEEPER ACTUATION

More deliberate clicks and greater protection against accidental input.

4  Built for 100 Million Clicks

The magnetic microswitch is specified for at least 100 million operating cycles under its defined endurance test conditions. Speed is valuable only when it remains consistent over long-term use.

5  Fast Actuation for Competitive FPS

Every click travels through a complete signal chain: finger, switch, sensing, MCU, USB or wireless, PC, and game. TMR sensing optimizes the beginning of that chain because actuation does not need to wait for conventional electrical contacts to stabilize.

Built for the moment that matters

Combined with optimized firmware and high polling rates, TMR provides the foundation for fast, consistent click detection in competitive FPS gaming.

TMR Magnetic Switch FAQ

What is a TMR magnetic mouse switch?

It uses a permanent magnet and TMR sensor to detect movement inside the switch without relying on conventional electrical contact closure as the primary actuation signal.

Does a TMR switch need debounce?

It does not require traditional mechanical-contact debounce. Firmware may still use filtering, hysteresis or signal validation to ensure stable magnetic detection.

Can TMR provide adjustable actuation?

Yes, when supported by the mouse electronics and firmware. Different magnetic thresholds can define different actuation points.

Is TMR the same as Hall Effect?

No. Both detect magnetic fields, but they use different physical sensing principles.

How long does the switch last?

The supplied switch specification states a rated operating life of at least 100 million cycles under its defined endurance conditions.
